How to Fix: WooCommerce Subscriptions is inactive

October 6, 2020

Have you received the error “WooCommerce Subscriptions is inactive. This version of Subscriptions requires WooCommerce 3.0 or newer.”

You may also see an error under WooCommerce > Subscriptions saying invalid post type when trying to view all the subscriptions or individual subscriptions. We encountered this error after transferring a clients website from one hosting platform to another.

How to fix this error:

Backup your database, and make sure both WordPress, WooCommerce, and WooCommerce Subscriptions are fully updated.
Go to Status under the WooCommerce Menu (WooCommerce > Status)
Click the Tools Tab
Scroll down to “Update database”
You may need to wait a moment and allow the database update to reapply.

Refresh the admin page, and the notice should be gone and WooCommerce Subscriptions will now function.
